Sometimes I see people upset that Zora artists use the term Free Mint to mean protocol fees only. 

It's just kind of the colloquial term we use because previous to protocol rewards artists set a price (usually at a min 10x the price of protocol rewards).

How do people feel about the term? Are there alternatives?

I think that people have too much time on their hands when this is something to get upset about ..

I don't think it's a "too much time" thing, as a lot of the people who are frustrated are newbies who don't really have any assets when they first get started as artists. It's just a bit of friction in an already overwhelming process.
