I feel if you want to bootstrap a new social graph you have to think about these dynamics and come up with creative solutions.

Maybe it's just on the social layer, but any good event planner knows that "good conversations" don't just happen naturally. There has to be an environment that encourages it, and I describe several of the environmental factors that are actively working against the intrinsic motivation for ppl to connect in a way that fosters good conversation.

Great thread here started by @trigs, who is one of the most thoughtful and skilled community-builders I've seen on FC.
