Yesterday, I was scammed (to a certain extent). I got a phone call from Austria claiming to be from @coinbase. I was at the office and very tired, so I didn’t think twice at first.

They told me there was suspicious activity on my account and asked me the following questions:

- When was the last time I accessed my account?
- From where?
- Have I ever used a VPN to access my account?
- Which device do I use to access my account?
- Can I still log in and access my account (to confirm that no one changed my password)?
- How much do I have in both @coinbase and @coinbasewallet?

The last question made me suspicious. That’s when I started wondering if Coinbase would even call me at all.

After all this, the guy (very polite, native English speaker) told me that my account was safe and that someone would call me back in a few minutes for the next steps.

Then I searched online and found out this is a common scam. I felt very stupid. I locked my account. 👇

I just received a suspicious text. A few weeks ago, @aphilos received a call similar to what @camilags described.

Oh, it seems like a scam. Can you believe that they keep calling me? I block the numbers and then they try with a new one.

I locked it. Now I have to unlock it first. It is a very good idea to disable SMS. ✨

Yeah, now they know your number is real. 

What tipped me off is that, I have 2 numbers, (mobile + Google Voice) and they texted on the number that is NOT associated with my Coinbase account.

Also, former employees I know tell me CB is VERY security conscious. They wouldn't reach out via phone.

I went in and created a new passkey and disabled SMS 2FA to be safe.
