in most creative endeavors, the amount of reps you do is the dominant variable in your success is that also true in filmmaking + acting?

some creative endeavors can be picked up pretty quick if you’re a natural. songwriting and acting are two examples. things like poetry and filmmaking take more time.

with filmmaking there’s a ton of technical craft stuff you have to pick up. takes years. film actors are mostly born, not made, actor delulu rizz. lots of folks can pick up a guitar, learn a few chords and write some good tunes. might take someone a few years of trying before they could write an ok poem.

It's simple to write a handful of words on a page just like it's simple to make rice and roll it into a cylinder. But the fact that's it's simple doesn't mean it's easy. It takes years to learn how a single letter out of place can change the entire tone of a piece - much like a master sushi chef with their craft.

Thanks, I hadn’t thought about how making sushi could be deceptively difficult. I suppose because, as you say, it looks easy.
