in most creative endeavors, the amount of reps you do is the dominant variable in your success is that also true in filmmaking + acting?

Yes and no Some directors really are just unskilled enough to guide the actor to do his role from the first try on camera or let's say right "from the first few tries" And some can guide as easily as it can be like Nolan or Stanley. They are famous for doing so. But the first example takes so much time in shooting making it like an endless loop. ( This makes ppl don't like working with him) The second example is the people's fav.

Sure not about the acting, Some acting from some actors from their first films ,have never repeated even close to it . But about filmmaking , like you want to know the answer .

some creative endeavors can be picked up pretty quick if you’re a natural. songwriting and acting are two examples. things like poetry and filmmaking take more time.

Absolutely. David Fincher is notorious for making his actors do like 100 to appear more natural

I don't see why not, as long as there's an effective feedback/improvement loop in place and you're not just doing the same thing over and over again.
