Here’s a free tip: When you are in a contentious negotiation, there can definitely be harm in asking for something and the outcome can be far worse than a simple no; you might kill the whole negotiation.

I would like to add my own wisdom here, if you do, don't retract and try to fix it. That gives the other party way too much power in any further negotiation. If you can afford to let it go as a failed negotiation, leave with confidence and maybe, just maybe, they may reach out and offer something close to the request.
