Iā€™m curious why the desk photo was chosen? It doesnā€™t show the product, doesnā€™t show a benefit or outcome. Feels off to me.

šŸŒ¶ļø Hot Take šŸŒ¶ļø I think all of those scroll jacking pages on šŸŽ.com do exactly what youā€™re describing.

I think I follow you. A lot of what youā€™re describing feels like ā€œvisual designā€ becoming the decision driver. Making things pretty for the sake of it. In spite of business outcomes, user outcomes, etc. This certainly happens most in marketing channels. The totality of design isnā€™t being considered.

Iā€™m curious, why do you think itā€™s that way? For me, itā€™s not because BH is super avant-garde when it comes to UX. Itā€™s b/c their website needs to exist for regulatory reasons. Itā€™s a burden. And since itā€™s a burden you get what is basically raw html. The same goes for prop shops and hedge funds.

Ahh I see! You are talking process. Brute force, grit, etc. Yes. 100% agreed.

šŸ’Æ I remember my work getting destroyed in critiques at design school. Professors were over the top critical to teach us the difference between the person and the work.

Iā€™m not sure how I feel about this. This reads to me like you feel there arenā€™t opportunities for leap frog moments.

It depends on the challenge at hand. Yeah? First principles thinking is immensely valuable when designing new interaction models, or casting visions. Not so much for something like optimizing transactional journeys that have strong best practices. Like a checkout flow.
