I grew up in a VERY small town in Oklahoma. I was about 6 or 7, and we were in a mall in Tulsa.

Walking through the mall, I saw a family of dark skinned people walking towards us. After they passed, I asked my mom about them. She said, "Honey, God left them in the toaster a bit longer than us."

I think this lie probably shaped my outlook on people much more than my mother could have ever imagined at the moment she said it. We are all one people, and every one is different, but also the same.
