Ah thanks! So the "crypto" in "crypto-colonialism" refers more to the quality of being concealed rather than the crypto we know hahaha. 

I had initially guessed that it meant the reproduction of colonialist behaviour within the crypto sector, e.g. the West dominating crypto-related resources and discourse.

Anthropologist Michael Herzfeld came up with this concept to describe countries that were subject to the conditions of colonialism without being officially colonized (eg Greece and Thailand)
