(You see, Nietzsche himself did this – he was a fantastic classical philologist, with a focus on the ancient Greek language. It's not easy to see what Nietzsche is really doing without being where he has been.)

Super interesting Do you think diving into Aristotle first actually helps you get Nietzsche better, or is it more about building up your philosophical chops to take him on?

Oh it for sure helps you understand Nietzsche’s thought itself β€” even when he is critiquing Greek thought, he is using some of their premises for what he builds next. Premises that are often v unfamiliar to modern thought. (But yes it also builds up your ability to stand outside of Nietzsche’s thought yourself!)
