It’s cool to see crypto payments happening… but I’m really disappointed that it’s still happening through visa and Mastercard networks. I’d like to see wallets abstracted to such a place where crypto payments feel like visa, but cut them out of the equation

Can’t wait to be back in SF for a bit. SD is great but I miss the energy of the bay.

I have a theory… I think the more outwardly “hippie” you are (exhibiting behaviors/beliefs) the less likely you are to be internally aligned with the original intention of the “hippie”-like introspection and breaking away from societal norms. Maybe this carries over to other stereotypes too. More outward demonstration is required to showcase you are in fact a member of that class.

I swear, 40% of my job as an eng lead/manager is just asking “did you write tests?”, finding out they didn’t, then making them write tests 🤦🏽‍♂️

The biggest thing that holds software engineers back that I see is they don’t read enough code. If you aren’t willing to dive head first into source of a library or framework and understand how it works, and rather wave your hands chanting MaGiC 🪄, YNGMI

No. And I'm also not a capitalist. Both are 20th century ideologies. (And they are words that have been stretched and abused to the point of meaninglessness: remember, in the 1990s, Microsoft called Linux "communist": https://www.theregister.com/2000/07/31/ms_ballmer_linux_is_communism/ ) I support freedom, global equality of opportunity, kindness and cooperation, human welfare and progress. These are timeless principles. The question is how to use the tools we have available to achieve these values in the context of the 21st century. I've written at length about the kinds of mechanisms I personally support, but I definitely do not think that I am the only source of good ideas, I think figuring out the best approach is a shared project of both thinking and also increasingly real world experimentation.

AND also mitigates the “grass is greener” effect that happens when there is so much choice for people. On top of matching people based on values and life goals.

This is your friendly holiday reminder to check on all your “at-risk” friends (single, immigrant, going through hard times etc.). If you have an opportunity, please invite them over to your holiday festivities This is really important. You’ll never know for a fact if people have already made plans unless you ask. Holiday season is a difficult time for a lot of us, and you can make someone’s life significantly better. A little kindness goes a long way

One of the reasons why I enjoy Thanksgiving and 4th of July more than Christmas tbh. Pressure of giving gifts and acting happy to receive gifts feels crappy.

I’m one of those people that really like Christmas but HATE the gift part. I’m a very minimalistic person so I don’t want basically anything and end up giving away most of my gifts. I also hate giving because most of my fam just asks for money and we just pass the same money around in a circle. Feels pointless.

Had to take a small defi loan today to cover something (didn’t want to completely deplete my savings) and while the UX still has a ways to go, it’s still better than tradfi by miles. Bullish. Aave still astounds me to this day.

For the developers out there: what are good examples of well factored and decent sized react applications in production that are open source? Like what Ghost or discourse is for emberjs Bonus points for an OS React Native app in production.
