I was in Denver during the DNC in 2008. Performed at a rally at the Capitol sponsored by the Green Party, which ended with a march to the convention to protest outside the arena. This protest turned into violent clashes with police, barely covered by mainstream media, and in the few instances that it did get mentioned, it was lazy takes that blamed protesters and painted them as far left crazies. I remember witnessing the riot from a healthy distance and thinking to myself, this all feels staged. A later investigation revealed, in fact, that undercover Denver cops acted as agent provocateurs to justify the violent dispersal of protesters: https://www.denverpost.com/2008/11/06/undercover-cops-were-among-the-unruly-at-dnc/amp/

And then I rapped about it in the second verse of this song. Sorry for the judgmental characterization of these provocateurs as “anarchist” I was a hardcore tankie at the time lol https://youtu.be/cwNoDTmE3b0?si=PSmC1KffpNs9BP3x

haven’t had too much experience with Denver cops other than see them spraying women and their children in the face with pepper spray during largely peaceful sports celebrations (Broncos and Avalanche)
