Tough when so much net worth for average Americans is tied to their house. We are on a state program cause we are too close to the coast for private companies to cover us, and it’s been 30 years since we’ve had a direct hit that caused widespread claims in Massachusetts. Though Sandy impacted the entire eastern seaboard premium wise. Had a buddy whose premium went up 60% this year, without added coverage. Next one that eventually does hit here will reset the numbers to a point where folks will say yikes. Fortunate to live on a modest home…

That's freaking wild. They were talking about how widespread the issue is, but I didn't even think about it affecting people all the way up in MA. My dad lives in FL now and they had minor damage, but it seems like they are living on borrowed time right now. I guess the question is — will the government absorb and socialize these losses?
