It’s a pain, yet a counter New Bedford does a half marathon that’s pretty big and draws folk from a good distance. It’s marketing the city for tourism and such, brings a bit more awareness etc. and it’s 4 hours out of the year, and locals are well aware and will plan accordingly. Guess if depends a bit on scale. Sunday AM probably lessens the impact as well.

this one is saturday afternoon and it’s full of suburbanites who “couldn’t imagine living anywhere so [xyz]” mayhaps tourism, but doubtful. again, if it’s actually to our general benefit I’m happy to consent. but as of now it’s a lot of work just to give county people something to bitch about lol
