Using the built-in VPN in Brave with Rainbow can be nice! It technically turns on the VPN tunnel for your whole computer though

Hey, why would you need a VPN from metamask or something else when there is proton and many other services, your horizons are probably too small.

you can't use a VPN within a JavaScript extension. You can connect to a locally running proxy though. I'd advise running a ShadowSocks server and connecting to it through browser GUI instead. Most VPN force all programs to run traffic through them, whereas with proxies you specify what goes through it.
