I suspect sci-fi is not going anywhere till we properly absorb the Strugatskys, Lem etc into a new thing by itself. Ballad, Bester etc were doing their thing but no one writes like that anymore. Every time westerners we run of things to do we reach for the transcend and get half-arsed mystic
