Suggestion To Improve Rewards Algo

*** Build Up Farcaster Upper-Middle Class

Not a complaint--true suggestion. We are seeing casts about 'points freezing.' I think there's an issue. (more in thread)

But I think there's a connected & bigger issue: The algo doesn't love the upper-middle class of FCers

Algo rightly weights OGs/auto-follows  (Maybe too much, but np)

Algo also is great for newcomers as we've seen 10-12 times in the top10 (Love it!)

BUT, a lot of great FCers are in the 2K-15K & not OG/auto-follow. They are, however, some of the most thoughtful, discerning, engaging FCers. 

You can see the algo doesn't love or often like them. I can get numerous r/c, comments, likes from them & get no points from them on a 'good' cast. On others I can get similar Middle class action & get a couple interactions from OG/AF types & get numerous points all from the OG/AFs. 

I love Rewards & benefit from it. Think this would improve it. 👊

Warpcast rewards are frustrating. My points have been frozen as well. So one week of casting and my points went up barely 300 points…
Which is fine however it’s not fair my points are frozen for most the week. Why? Below is from the first day of collecting rewards, my points were accumulating. The next five days I didn’t earn SHIT.

1. Great FCers, good/great engagement for size of account:

@hankmoody (finishes top 50-100, look at his work and engagement, I never seem to earn Reward pts for his r/c, comment, etc

(both like hank building community, good engagement, I never seem to earn Reward from their interacton)

2. Then great FCers with great content & I understand engagement is much lower, but still part of my suggestion. (I understand from your side, you could say they need better engagement. I get it).

I could get more, but let's start there...

(For frens tagged here if you don't know why... I'm saying you are examples great FCers that are underrated in the Rewards algo, see above for context)

Algo doesn't love = when they engage with casts (at least mine) (r/c, like, comment) they often do GIVE any rewards to the person casting and you can see how low they are in the roll call of likes and recasts. 

So, I get a combination r/c-s, comments, and likes from several of what I'm calling great FC and get 0 points (or maybe 22). I get a like from Ted, a like & r/c from nounishprof, and a comment from Adriene among my engagement and get maybe 700 Reward points.

We talk about 'building community,' but why is it so hard?
 
@danicaswanson shared "Community Is Not the Product," in which the author argues that extrinsic--or external---incentives, in particular tokens, will not 'build' community.

A community, he says, 'is an organic group of humans who are aligned on a given mission & values, working together to achieve that goal.' A community is formed by intrinsic-or internal-incentive--the people are already aligned. 

Community is a big part of why I'm here. This article gave me words to describe some things I've seen.
 
@hankmoody is building /live-the-same with intrinsic incentives. Hundreds of FCers meeting hundreds of FCers--it's like a digital cup of coffee.
 
/sense recently decreased in activity when Moxie changed. Guess who it didn't change? @3irka.eth @girl-ua @tylerfoust.eth @rosekeyes @vito4ka.eth Why? Because they are there for intrinsic reasons--they love building community.

1. This got ~200 pts and I'm virtually certain all from MarkFishman r/c and like....I was shocked. Compared to other casts of mine, this felt like a 1200 ish.

2. This got 0 points. Felt like 500 min maybe more (could be part of freezing but then why did I get points on Sundays casts. This was def 1 of my 10 best.

4. I don't have perfect memory on this one, but def a top cast that week and I think it maybe got a small bump in Rewards. Compared to others feels like 1500+

Thanks for the feedback. Varun already shared the stuck score issue which we can iterate on.

1. What does it mean the "algo doesn't love"? They aren't in the top 500, i.e. scoring, or they are just further down the scoreboard?

2. Do you have a list of users you think are being penalized (explicitly or implicitly)?

3. Do you have examples of casts?

You are either OG/Autofollow or Upper Middle Class....depending on how the algo affects you. 

I'm trying to define a class of great, thoughtful, discerning FCers who are not being weighted in the algo like the OG/auto follow crowd and in fact their interactions often give no points b/c the algo doesn't like them. Could be 2K or 50k followers....could be here a long time or a few months. 

I could give examples and maybe I will have to some time.

Well, there's two things in my cast....the freeze is affecting some people and it's frustrating. So hoping that gets looked at. 

But I also think people make some good casts and don't see points b/c the algo doesn't like the FC Upper Middle class.

I’m in that follower range. I don’t see the freeze. Is there something to be gained from that example?

Quick note on "score freezing" for Warpcast rewards. 

Some people notice their score gets stuck during the week. We were only scoring the best 10 casts from the past week for perf reasons. So if you post your bangers at the beginning of the week you might notice it gets "stuck" till the next week.

True the algo does weight engagement from the OGs for points

I didn't understand this mechanism either. It seemed to have frozen for the last few days.

i've noticed this as well, as a hyper vigilant checker of rewards for me & my recent onboards for the past 2 weeks. something seems wonky.

Truly doesn't help that it seems its based on a weighted ruler system. Where the top percent still gives out the top percent vs actual engagement numbers.
