Why Channels 2.0 is good for new users. I was the ~6,000th person to join Farcaster. When I got here, I did not know anyone. And believe it or not, 6,000 was a discouraging number, since everyone had pretty tightly-wound histories, statuses, jokes, cliques, etc. To re-consider that situation through the Channel 2.0 lens: It's as if Farcaster itself was a big channel that I was not a Member in. I earned my membership by replying genuinely one-by-one, day-by-day to people who I found interesting. But it took upwards of a year to be really in. Saying this here because I believe that Channels 2.0 Make Farcaster Cozy Again – a blend of exclusive, yet approachable. For new users especially, it's less like a 60,000 person gorilla, and more like a matrix of those 6,000 (or 600 or 60) person cohorts that OG users originally encountered here. tldr: I think Channels 2.0 are a way for new users to find their exclusive social opportunities even more quickly than OG FC... which was already fantastic. Win-win-win.

This is my main concern with the changes. Insiders can adapt pretty easily. I appreciate your take but still have a couple concerns: 1. How does an outsider get into those 60 or 600 cozy corners when they're replies go hidden and they have to prove themselves to get an invite (from many)? 2. Onboarding has gotten much more complicated especially to get them in the right places when several of the best are hypersub or FT... -I need you pay $5 -I need you get a Moxie Pass -I need you to earn Moxie -I need you to buy these FTs -I need you to pay and subcribe to these Hypers We'll figure it out, but I don't think we are there yet. We are honing for insiders and making it harder for outsiders.

Great points to think about. A path for outsiders to become insiders is key. A couple quick thoughts: About #1 — *I* still got your notification and now that I’m replying and liking I think it will go above the fold About #2 - I think the onboarding feeds to WC in general are being ramped toward zero over time. And channels being in charge of their onboarding can create “costly signals” that give new users a chance to stand out from the crowd if they are especially serious about participating with a new crowd

You got the notification because we follow each other and have earned trust. If I was new, it would have been hidden. According to a dwr answer to my question a week ago I don't believe my reply now goes above the fold for channel members. I'm sure it will get easier over time and that will be great. I'm not all worked up about this b/c it's a journey and everybody is working hard. But my radar is tuned to insider/outsider dynamic be default. Great to be somewhere thinking and talking about these things! đź‘Š

Agree. This conversation will be continually important. It’s not all ironed out and I’m glad we’re paying attention (Also, I believe people will be able to get visibility in non channel casts, and can give notifications if enough other social signal. Just regarding how users build the trust in the first place)
