The relationship I nurtured most this year is with myself--but not in a cliche "love yourself" kind of way. Like many of you, I'm sure, my brain and my inner voice are like a mother-in-law you can't please, or for me an exacting coach that requires perfection. The problem is, I realized I'm more like the kid who needs a coach to put an arm around you & give you encouragement & confidence. So, I worked on it daily & the biggest thing that's changed is PAUSING. I've created a pause to breathe, think, or reflect and not act on every emotion or thought. Sometimes it's encouraging. Sometimes it's exhausting. But either way, it's necessary.  @markfishman has been doing these prompts as a taste of /firstdraft which helps you build a writing habit. Check it out.

This is great! Loved seeing your reflections this month Maybe it’s been suggested before, but have you tried mindfulness meditation? I found it super helpful (and challenging) for practicing that mental pause where I let my thoughts go by

I really like this. This has been something I’ve been doing too since early 2023. You’re spot on with how much work it takes sometimes, but the payoff is big. For me, the pause is the realization of the choice to choose to be dependent on Jesus or to allow my own thoughts/feelings steer my actions. I appreciate you sharing!
