** The Farcaster Settlement ** (my /firstdraft ) I was talking to someone struggling to find their way on FC & wanted to give them an illustration of life here. And I wanted it to not only explain it but give them something to feel. I like the Singapore illustration--low population, high GDP--but it's hard to feel. So, I said FC is like a group settling a new frontier. To me, this captures the positive-sum nature of FC. How does a group of people settle a new world? People find their roles in serving the greater good, serving the existence of the village. It seems the people who have best found their way on FC, have found their role in supporting the village. A new settlement needs governing. Here, that's the FC team especially @dwr.eth & @v . It needs economic support & development. That's the biggest list here, but especially @jacek @betashop.eth @deployer . The village needs 'spiritual' or moral help like @july . But it needs all kinds of people... 1/2 cont'd β¬οΈ

Great take. Have you seen or heard @balajis.eth compare the internet as a frontier similar to land (which has already been all discovered and claimed) and sea and space which are infinitely harder to settle than the internet?

Ah. This is great and the kind of thing I was hoping to get from this post. Thanks! Network State came to mind, but I barely know enough about it. Have never heard this illustration from him. And when Network State came to mind, I couldn't 'feel' anything....but I also new the 'western frontier' or new world is ancient. This helps. I probably need to explore this. π π

My challenge with network state stories is that they are, what we call in Dutch Luchtkastelen: air castles. Their beautiful palaces, with rainbows and pots of gold and kings and queens and knights in shiny armour. But they are built on vapor. There is no real solution for the 99% that facilitate living in the castle. The farmers, the clothes makers, the garbage men, the fishers, the hunters. There is no place for them, and especially in a self-reliant frontier village, we need all roles to be filled and valued.

Recommend giving it a read. I loved it. You can skim through it and just read sections (itβs actually designed to be read that way) and learn a lot without having to read every word.
