Why not use an open messaging protocol that already exists like Waku, xmtp, matrix, nostr, alter, layer 0, IBC, Axelar, etc? Why make some new thing that's just another confusion to the equation? Why not just use Farcaster? We need *another* messaging protocol like we need another defi focused L2 chain (aka a hole in the head).

Agree with the desire to avoid this, and Farcaster would be the best choice if it didn't have the $2 yearly cost. XMTP - maybe. if the new design that adds onchain IDs matrix - Doesn't have decentralized IDs, hence the question nostr - no options for key management, ngmi all the rest - don't know them well enough

What about a system that lets you use a multitude of already existing decentralized ID's and has interoperable optionality on which messaging layer you use. Integrate with what already exists. Then you're not stuck in a single walled garden behind one silo'd ID/chain that could go belly up at any moment?
