the key point missed by ENS and derivatives for identity is that identity is not scarce – the discriminator pattern discord used to use was a very good option: humans are great at subitizing groups of four, so a common moniker and four unique digits was very effective. no amount of PM justification on discord's part will ever change my mind that their switch to usernames was a good decision.
