We submitted a pull request to Signal to add ENS lookups the Signal client. https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Desktop/pull/5968
Signal did not accept it.

The genesis of 3NUM was to eliminate SIM Swaps by turning the phone number itself a self-custody asset minted as a 721.
It's a perfect compliment to Signal, since today you can have your Signal account taken over via SIM Swapping. That PR was to see if the Signal community would be open to adopting ETH tooling.

There's a lot of work that went into this. It's unfortunate they didn't want to take it forward. But I presume them saying no was the genesis of 3NUM?
