Using the same keys for signing “I’m me” and also for encryption is a no-no, so this becomes another key management problem. The MM encrypt/decrypt is already deprecated for this reason. Wallet Connect has a protocol as well as centralized infra. XMTP is doing this.

For a specific real time use case you could use a public key for saying "I'm me" but then rely on Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (which WebRTC uses) to ensure that exchanged data is secure. SRTP is already widely adopted and reliable
