Welcome to Jaiku, 2006 ;) In Jaiku, you could add RSS feeds and a few other integrations which followers could individually choose to subscribe to, just like this.

More old time vibes. Blaine (Twitter founding engineer) and Ralph (Jaiku engineer) talked about interop. They decided to use XMPP. You could use XMPP to subscribe to and respond to posts on either network. Including threading support, which the Twitter web interface didn’t support.
