In my experience*, ~20 years ago campaigning negatively AGAINST the opponents instead of positively FOR your agenda was perceived as cringe. Today, it's cringe to be a passionate Trump supporter or a passionate Harris supporter. Being a passionate anti-Harris or anti-Trump person is a lot more acceptable. At the end of the day, who wants to be strongly associated with two unqualified warhawks (even if one is slightly better than the other)? The "lesser of two evils" logic isn't just bad for policies. It's also bad for discourse and even how you position yourself in society. *: Most parts of it outside the US

Nihilism on the rise and many politicians love the cynical/disengaged populace that comes with it, even if it means bit more hate towards them.
