Could Depression Genetics Finally Be Understood for Everyone? What if depression risk isn't the same for everyone-but past research failed to show it? A massive global study in Cell (Jan 2025) just uncovered 700 genetic variants linked to depression, with 100 newly identified thanks to inclusion of non-European populations. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2025/01/250114124756.htm

This is the largest and most diverse depression genetics study ever, analyzing over 5 million people from 29 countries. Unlike previous studies that focused mostly on white populations, this research highlights genetic differences across African, East Asian, Hispanic, and South Asian groups. These findings could help predict depression risk more accurately and lead to better, more personalized treatments
