I see a lot of people apologize before leaving a 5 DEGEN tip. 

Let me tell you, that 5 DEGEN tip means more to me than a 69 DEGEN tip from someone with a bigger allowance.   When you give me your entire allowance, I am thankful - regardless how big it is. Plus, 5 DEGEN is 5 bucks in future money anyway.

This is why the "you have to leave at least 1 degen or the last tip you give is invalid" thing was so important to many people. If you don't have a lot to give and you are giving because you truly appreciate someone else, to have it invalidated for no good reason hurts more than the pocketbook!
