If the "black list" from top collectors is a thing, I am certain I am in it. It makes me so mad to see them "help" artists by telling us what to do when their advice benefits NO ONE except their small circle of very successful artists, those who did exactly what they tell us not to do. This is one reason I am sick of the community on X, and I am glad I found a great community of artists and degens here on Warpcast. I started selling art as NFTs in 2021. On few occasions, I saw big sales related to the actual quality of the art. Every big sale was attached to a serious marketing strategy/play. Some were brilliant; some were purely based on relationships. The only reason I am still here is because I believe in the technology and what we can build with it in the long run. It will change when we onboard art appreciators (buy to hold, support and enjoy the art) and not crypto investors (who buy thinking of how much they can make on secondary, and if they can sell as assets in case they need liquidity).

Agreed so much. NFTs were the best and worst thing to happen to many artists. They gave digital artists a way to legitimize value of their work with provenance, but they also set up art as just another “collectible trading token” and so the value was derived from rarity and scarcity of the token based on the brand of the producer instead of the art itself. The speculative nature of NFTs led to “Collectors” actually being investors and investors expect returns from investments. They don’t buy them to enjoy looking at them. So all the “big collector” advice is coming from that perspective: how to maximize the hype and inflate value of art as investment. While artists really just want some valid income to survive and keep making art. It’s such a shame it has manifested this way.
