What does optimism mean to you?
For me, optimism, while powerful, can sometimes tip into toxic positivity—or even into cultivating certain behaviors to feel good, like using drugs, which was my go-to for many years.
Looking back, I now realize this was a way to avoid necessary challenges or suppress emotions that needed attention. That comforting "everything will be fine" mindset felt good in the moment, but it left me unprepared for the realities I needed to face to truly grow and thrive.
Now, I understand that real growth isn’t about ignoring the shadows—it’s about meeting them with curiosity, courage, and compassion.
