A lion is a species of predatory mammal, one of the five representatives of the panther genus, belonging to the subfamily of big cats in the feline family. Along with the tiger, it is the largest living cat, the weight of some males can reach 250 kg. It is difficult to say with certainty whether the largest subspecies of lions are more massive than the largest subspecies of tigers. This is due to the fact that the known very large masses of Amur tigers are mostly recognized as insufficiently reliable. Science does not have sufficient data on the size and mass of representatives of the largest lion subspecies (for example, the Barbary lion). As for animals living in captivity, they are often a mixture of different subspecies.
