Two nights ago, my fiancée and I lost our dream home in Malibu to the Palisades Fire.
This is my first time experiencing something like this, and it’s been a potent, humbling moment. What hurts the most is the 1/1 nature of everything we carefully curated in our home, the heirlooms, the art, my journals, family images. All gone.
But in the midst of loss, there’s clarity. I keep coming back to the analogy of a Buddhist mandala, where the creation is impermanent and meant to be let go. This is life.
We’ve built it once, and we will build it again, even faster. Everything we’ve built, we can rebuild, with greater intention and resilience.
I’m grateful for this experience, even as painful as it is.
