I sometimes read books quickly and then a day later I can't remember what the plot was about. I wonder if this is old age coming? Or is this how the brain gets rid of unnecessary information... Now I very often force myself to read slowly and thoughtfully, deliberately stretching out the reading of a book over several days or even a week, so that I can remember what it is about and so that I can remember it after some time

when you slow down your reading, you give your brain more time to process and retain it. Maybe comprehension quality matters more than reading speed!

The super power of the brain isn’t in what we remember but in how we filter/sort/handle the massive amount of info constantly coming in 🫡 A book to check out around that (and a lot more!) is User Illusion by Tor Nørretranders https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_illusion
