random sunday morning thinking about app stores and how the distribution dynamic always ends up being a power law for the apps at the top of the leaderboard then associated this to social media apps/clients (ex. warpcast): - 🚾 = app store - accounts/users = apps - a frequent complaint i see is smaller accounts don't feel very visible unless centralized authority provides a curation boost, as is the case in app stores too would custom algorithms, being "anti-feed" even resolve this (3rd party app stores do exist, not sure how successful)? or is there opportunity for alt clients to differentiate and disrupt?

right? do you think custom algorithms can even fix that?

not really, most social media is already a custom tailored algorith (you cant choose, but like stated vs revealed prefernces) your choose your algo would be 'stated' preferences algo instead of revealed

this is not inherent to algorithms because pareto 80 20 initial resarch was on land ownership of italy if i recall correctly, and it can be observed in many areas of natural and economics, basically a few entities usually dominate any market

even before you mentioned this, my thinking on getting more distribution through followers was along the lines of being a "land grab" - either be early & active; grind like hell to build up a following; or be well-known enough 😂 similarly, i'm not sure what other ways there would be around this for any network tbh
