potentially dumb question but can someone explain the logic of โ€œsublettingโ€ your apartment out for 2 weeks while youโ€™re on vacation? like is rent really that high or are people really that cash strapped or what?

i think rent is high enough in some cities to justify it, and it's zero-downside to try

lmaoo zero downside... i mean if you own 20 homes maybe you don't mind getting one trashed/robbed but yah leaving strangers on your home ain't for the non risky at heart or cash-strapped imho

the math is not that bad, if you're paying 4k/mo in nyc and you sublet two weeks for 2k and also do some basic vetting of the person beforehand, if the alt is you "losing" 2k its fairly unlikely they're going to cause >2k worth of damages so its still +EV

any of my many computers i woul dhave to store elsewhere, or other personal possessions are potentially worth to me more than 2k, again, i'd do it if i need the money but then i just won't go in. a vacation isntead i just like my cozy home lol
