Pretty sure we could get a lot more fruits per tree if we we selectively breed trees to minimize trunk/branches thickness and just focus on making fruit.

Humans would provide the structural support, and plant basically becomes a vine.

if a plant needs an espalier maybe it needs to leave room to better plants that can handle the ecosystem
