Genuinely surprised a simple, soulbound ERC hasn't emerged on Ethereum by now. Anyone aware of someone working on one?

ERCs are social consensus and I don’t see a lot of people working on getting alignment like this β€” especially in tricky identity related areas. This would touch wallets a fair bit, so might be something for Chain Agnostic Standards Association (CASA).

Identity related issue is exactly what it is. Inherent problem with wallets is, like IRL, it is fungible and better remain that way despite trends to coerce people to use just one. identifiers on data-centric layers (blockchain wallets, and even DIDs) make for a poor proxy for soul.

For that matter fid (being on the data-layer) also has the same problem.

What is needed is an identifier from a sybil-resistant layer hoisted above data layers. Being non-data centric, it has the property of being private by default without even using the latest ZKP techniques.

Like how "soul" is supposed to be. In the (data-centric) world, but not of it.
