My son came home from school today (third grade, he’s 9) and was very down and sad When we talked to him we found out that they are having an end of the year party tomorrow, and you get to participate based on how well you performed on a test Everyone passed as far as getting to watch a movie and have popcorn (yellow level), but then there was a green level, where you get a drink, and a blue level, where you also get a candy My son only reached the yellow level (he has a disability + IEP and all) and was embarrassed and sad that he doesn’t get to participate with the rest of the class and get a drink and snack I’m a teacher myself so I’m always trying to err on their side, but part of this seems kind of messed up for that young of an age, esp when my son has a disability that directly impacts his performance on these things When we reached out to the teacher to see her side of the story - we didn’t want to just blindly trust our son on it - she reiterated the system What would you guys do?

Pack your son a 2 liter drink a jumbo sized candy of his choice (Father to a sassy 6 year old daughter and a 1 year old son who just grunts when he wants something)

We basically told the teacher that was what we were going to do so he didn’t feel excluded and then she changed the whole plan to include everyone
