What most people don’t realize is we’re the guinea pigs.

Every cast, every like, every leaderboard climb it’s not just participation. It’s data. It’s training material. And for what? A few dollars? A bit of visibility?

We’re helping shape systems that will one day shape us and most don’t even see it happening.

That’s what worries me. Not the leaderboard itself, but how easily we accept being measured, how willingly we train algorithms that may one day decide what’s worthy, what’s real, what gets seen.

It feels harmless now. But we’re laying the foundations for something much bigger. And we need to ask are we building something that empowers us, or something that quietly rewrites what it means to be human?

I’m with you - leaderboard is whack tbh and if you actually do pay attention to who is consistently ranking in the top there is 1000% a performative element to their casts and how they present themselves 

And this is from someone who benefits from the leaderboard - I’m getting paid every week (and giving it all away ofc)

Tbh would like to see people at the top give more of the money away to the people who put them there 

When $degen was in its hey day, those of us at the top were doing awesome, but we also were literally tipping people hundreds of thousands of dollars

I haven’t even tried to understand the new leaderboard or tipping system not because I’m against rewards, but because I know myself: leaderboards always lead to awkward behavior. That’s just how humans respond to being ranked.

Maybe it’s improved, maybe the payout system is fairer but the outcome is always the same. People at the top aren’t there by coincidence. There’s a certain shaping of behavior that happens, whether intentional or not.

Personally, I’m not interested in optimizing for a system that subtly trains us how to perform. I think we underestimate how much that changes why we post, how we show up, and eventually who we become online.
