ok, let's get back to those Mars mission ideas. here's an idea from Peter Hague maximizing starship efficiency using a continuously increasing group of sun-orbiting starships as regular ferries to the red planet: initially, the mission to Mars would carry 250 people on 5 Starships, each designed for different roles. one ship will carry all the crew, maximizing space for living quarters, while the others serve as space-only vehicles, cutting down on mass for the journey https://x.com/peterrhague/status/1832793121945460766

I like that the word ā€œmini space stationā€ was used. Iā€™m having some difficulty understanding what space-only vehicles mean tho.

those are the ones that never make reentry into an atmosphere, so once they are launched, they remain in space and are used as ferries / cargo ships while other ships are configured for atmospheric flight
