Cloud providers are completely abstracted away from the end user, so I don’t think this is a fair analogy today.

That's fair, but you have to remember that (especially for alt L1s) you might need to install a new wallet app/extension and transfer funds Saying you're not going to use a website because your browser can't access it is a more reasonable thing to do (That's why I like wallet software that supports multiple chains)
