devil's advocate: isn't it kind of the same though? feels to me more correct way is to expect priors to change and accepting it despite not wanting them to change

well sure, i'm maybe needlessly dwelling on words here — just "want to change" and "expect the change despite reluctance" feel different

there’s a refusal to the call of change in one of these populations and then there’s the excitement and embrace of change in the other I’ll let you decide which you think is ultimately a better modus operandi

the first has a slight edge. there's room for both approaches though. generally, i don't agree with the dichotomy. there are cults hungry for change, there are scientists who've refused to change their opinions no matter how many facts™️ they've seen and they turned out to be right. plus there are cultists and larpers hiding behind science too. healthy skepticism on one side and letting go of ego when necessary on the other (which is difficult to judge).
