That said, there is a truth that games used to be better: and more specifically Nintendo games

Pokémon was way better when it didn’t come with 8 hours of tutorials up front, and just let you get right into the adventure

Zelda was also better when it didn’t have 8 hours of novice tutorial hell

My favorite games just throw you right in and let you figure it out: immediate immersion

I don’t need any of this: oops you’re an idiot, or a child, let us show you how to play our game because there’s no other way you can learn but our forced tutorial

I am a pretty big fan of how TOTK intro-ed everything but I do fondly remember the days of just figuring it out too
