Should all podcasts be hobbiests only or do you have a better alternative for podcasters to earn $$?

that’s a difficult question but for me the only thing that comes to mind is selling a subscription: Sam Harris’s Making Sense podcast and business model for instance is one of the prime examples i would look at for ideas in this vein he never sells any time to advertisers as it would compromise his integrity and he admits as much

and separate question- Are there any ads you like on any platform? tv ads? Movie previews? Billboards? Ads mostly suck so I don’t blame you for hating them on podcasts but there’s a reason they are everywhere I’m also a professional podcaster now so there’s that lol

I absolutely despise all forms of ads, tbh, especially movie trailers: as a film enthusiast, there’s nothing that ruins a good movie more than a trailer that reveals way too much if I were pushed to imagine a better way of advertising especially in live spoken word, I would say morphing the ad into some funny or engaging story(preferably rooted in truth or experience) one of the hosts is telling, without first acknowledging it’s an ad might be the best way to do it..
