Announcing pyusd.to - a project I developed with @amandasr to make it a little easier to offramp from Ethereum to PayPal or Venmo using PayPal’s stablecoin, PYUSD. https://mirror.xyz/gardenlabs.eth/FYfUttWY6pkOS6ynhIYu_NU6bxD4qmyHUSEymskG_ek?referrerAddress=0x8A37ab849Dd795c0CA1979b7fcA24F90Be95d618

@amandasr and I are both recovering trad payments dorks. When PYUSD was announced last year, we immediately saw how good it could be for the space by turning every PayPal and Venmo account into an on/offramp with fiat funding sources all hooked up. So in December I put together pyusd.to to explore the experience.

It currently takes a few steps for PayPal users to get paid in PYUSD. To remedy this, we decided to make it easy for our normie friends to share a custom URL to get paid right into their Venmo or PayPal accounts without knowing anything about tokens or DEXs or wallets.

At its core, the project is just an opinionated little frontend to route and execute Uniswap v3 swaps, plus a database to keep track of personalized URLs. And you can use it with ENS or Ethereum address too, if you just want an easy URL to give out.

If you’d like to fork and hack on it, all the preferred tokens and the target token (i.e. PYUSD) are very easy to edit. Deployment currently assumes a Postgres db for the personalized URLs, but that should be easy to change (or remove the feature). https://github.com/mono-koto/pyusd.to/

We get that PayPal doesn’t have cachet in our dynamic onchain world where even a newer term like “dapp” can be derided as boomer. We also get that for a lot of folks, centralized p2p payments are something crypto aims to replace.

Yet PayPal is a unique company. A massive, active, multisided merchant/consumer payments network. Lindy af. Maintains security even as one of the most attacked sites in the world. Handles tons of payment volume. Operates in hundreds of countries and many currencies. And now opening up to blockchain interop? Wild.
