can we have an intellectual conversation here about the trend away from utility tokens? $zora is not used in zora protocol $clanker is not used in clanker protocol ... interesting trend imo

has been the case for quite a while now since the rise of memecoins. there was a theory that $zora was supposed to be used on the zora network till the superchain killed custom gas tokens

I think it is because the utility of the utility tokens did not do enough to be valuable. Not all of course, but generally.

Utility adds pressure. Speculation is faster. Most tokens aren’t used, they’re traded. And outside of main chain gas like ETH, I’ve always wondered… why do apps even need their own token? Here’s what I've learned about launching tokens... it usually boils down to: 1️⃣ Launch from 0 and raise funds 2️⃣ Airdrop + reward users with liquidity 3️⃣ Build a real ecosystem with a utility token, value, onchain loops 4️⃣ …or just launch + extract 🤷‍♀️ That last one is sadly common.. it’s easy, fast, and forgotten by tomorrow. But #3? That’s rare. Hard. Worth it. That’s where real creators shine🫵
