well past dusk, the streetlights burned out long ago. the neighbors must prefer it that way. gravel shifts beneath each step dusting new boots. walking toward the inviting light, sounds of people swell up. it is hardly summer yet the energy in the air means it is close. daydreaming a future beach trip, escapism served.
