As evil as cell phones are now I see why parents get them for kids. My kiddo has a bunch of friends from school who live 1-5 miles away. But if she wants to play w/ them she has to ask me to call/txt and ask their parents if their kid can do a playdate. This didn't occur in the days of 1 landline homephone.
