EBay has a “vault” now to store collectibles etc. Just a matter of time before they try to bring it on chain.

I'd be shocked if they have their sights set only on trading cards. 

Question is who gets to the TAM first for this type of marketplace. 

My bet is on trading cards as market entry point since that's most applicable to current web3 user base.

Courtyard's definitely doing some cool stuff.

There's a massive market of rare/luxury items beyond trading cards, though, which is where I think interoperable proof of authenticity would be really compelling for marketplaces like ebay, Grailed, Hodinkee, etc.
