It's certainly not optimal. It'd likely lead to much greater adoption by mainstream U.S. consumers though which is a net positive in my view. 

I'd like to see them extend the tax treatment to BTC and ETH ETFs who's financial sponsors are U.S. domiciled.

shitcoins would be tax-free but BTC, ETH would not?
